WYD Logo

Inspiration as a result of prayer

The circumstances surrounding the creation of the logo are unusual. Being at the Vatican for the canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIIII, Monika Rybczyńska prayed before the Polish Pope’s tomb with the words: "Holy Father, I need inspiration. If God wants it, please intercede for me to receive it."
"It was a specific prayer! And the answer was immediate!" Monika said, "That very evening I sent a finished version of the logo to the Youth Ministry’s Head Office in Warsaw!"

During the final stages of design she worked together with Emilia Pyza, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts. It was Emilia, who added the ultimate lightness and finishing touches to the Logo. For her, the logo of the WYD in Krakow should chiefly reflect the Salvation that comes from the Cross which is offered freely to all of us and also, how the infinite Mercy of God washes away everything that is imperfect in ourselves.

What does Monika, the logo designer, have to say to the next WYD participants?
"

“Come! On World Youth Day you can really recharge your batteries. Mine are still running and fully charged. It was at the altar, at Copacabana that I entrusted myself to the Lord Jesus. Today, I still want to give thanks for that moment and still feel the need to serve.”

Monika Rybczyńska, WYD logo designer
